Open House at Greenhouse & Kitchen Garden
June 16 | 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Come join The Horticultural Society of New York and The Burpee Foundation for an open house at the NYdigs Greenhouse & Kitchen Garden. Located at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park, this free event runs from 10am – 1pm and will showcase vegetables, fruits, and herbs!
Hop on our smoothie bike and switch into high gear to blend your own green drink or bring on summertime with freshly-picked berries baked into delicious treats the whole family will love! You can discover new tastes, textures and smells with herbal plants grown in our greenhouse – plant a seed to take home, too! Everyone has a chance to win in the free raffle at 12pm.
Additionally, The greenhouse will be open for the community to view the collection of tropical, subtropical, and temperate plants. Additional activities include health screenings from New York Presbyterian and garden meditation with the Shinnyo Center. Gardeners, from first-timers to seasoned green thumbs, will have an opportunity to get their questions answered by horticulture experts from The Hort and The Burpee Company.
A true heritage brand, the Burpee Co. was founded in Philadelphia in 1876 by W. Atlee Burpee, an 18-year-old with a passion for plants and animals, and a mother willing to lend him $1,000 of “seed money” to get him started in business. Within 25 years he had developed the largest, most innovative seed company in the world. Still located in the greater Philadelphia area, Burpee is owned and operated by George Ball, a third-generation plantsman.
