Art in the Garden

October 15 @ 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Join us for a free workshop in photo printing and collage. Together, we’ll look at the history of garden archives and June Jordan in Harlem.

This event is part of Art in the Garden. Critically and creatively engage with a diversity of artmaking techniques that open you up to deeper dialogue on place and your lived environments.

FACILITATOR

Stephanie Alvarado (they/she) is a queer disabled femme and antidisciplinary artist, educator, poet, archivist and cultural organizer for 20 years. Alvarado was born and raised in The Bronx, NY by way of Guayaquil, Ecuador. In January 2020, Alvarado began Fotos y Recuerdos Archive as an intergenerational community archive workshop that centers accessibility and collective memory practices for Black Indigenous and people of color on public land.

ACCESSIBILITY

The kitchen/classroom is wheelchair accessible; with advance notice we can add a mat path across the greenhouse’s pebbled ground (garden entrance has a small raised threshold; garden paths are grass).
Tables adjust height; backless benches/stools available.
Kitchen is shared—we avoid peanuts but can’t guarantee a nut-free space; water provided in refillable pitchers.
First aid on-site; nearest AED is one building away.
Nearest restrooms are ~1 min walk; a gender-neutral restroom is available by key from staff.
Not a scent-free space (essential oils used in class), though we ventilate and welcome masking/distancing.
All Greenhouse Education Center events happen rain or shine.
