Recipes and Rituals for Community Care
November 11 @ 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Autumn Harvest Sound Healing & Tea Ceremony
Join us for a free soundbath meditation open to kids, caregivers, and elders alike. After introductions and time for your questions, you’ll rest for 20 minutes as Tia plays Tibetan singing bowls. Their gentle vibrations support healing, stress relief, and focus.
Next, we’ll brew herbs together and taste the tea while we talk. We’ll close with a short send-off. If you feel called, bring a journal to write down your thoughts.
This event is part of Recipes & Rituals for Community Care. Explore the role of plants in personal and communal well-being with guest herbalists, healing artists, and wellness practitioners.
FACILITATOR
Mattia “Tia” Colón is a Master Level Social Worker, Meditation Facilitator & Garden Educator. It is her connection to the Chieu Kien Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in The Bronx that influences and inspires her work. Tia is a mentee of the Tea, Art & Culture program learning about traditional Chinese tea brewing and herbal medicinal teas. She hosts soundbowl meditation events and medicinal tea ceremonies with diverse groups of people across NYC.
ACCESSIBILITY
The kitchen/classroom is wheelchair accessible; with advance notice we can add a mat path across the greenhouse’s pebbled ground (garden entrance has a small raised threshold; garden paths are grass).
Tables adjust height; backless benches/stools available.
Kitchen is shared—we avoid peanuts but can’t guarantee a nut-free space; water provided in refillable pitchers.
First aid on-site; nearest AED is one building away.
Nearest restrooms are ~1 min walk; a gender-neutral restroom is available by key from staff.
Not a scent-free space (essential oils used in class), though we ventilate and welcome masking/distancing.

All Greenhouse Education Center events happen rain or shine.
