Art in the Garden

October 29 @ 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Join us for a free workshop honoring Día de los Muertos. You’ll decorate a wooden frame to hold a portrait or a special memory of someone. It doesn’t need to go on an altar, and all are welcome.

Start with seeds from seasons past or ones with personal meaning. Glue them on, add paint, or Mod Podge botanical images onto the wood.

This event is part of Art in the Garden. Critically and creatively engage with a diversity of artmaking techniques that open you up to deeper dialogue on place and your lived environments.

FACILITATOR

O is a Mexican artist from the Bronx with a focus in photography, storytelling and painting. They curate and facilitate workshops in green spaces. They are a garden steward.

ACCESSIBILITY

The kitchen/classroom is wheelchair accessible; with advance notice we can add a mat path across the greenhouse’s pebbled ground (garden entrance has a small raised threshold; garden paths are grass).
Tables adjust height; backless benches/stools available.
Kitchen is shared—we avoid peanuts but can’t guarantee a nut-free space; water provided in refillable pitchers.
First aid on-site; nearest AED is one building away.
Nearest restrooms are ~1 min walk; a gender-neutral restroom is available by key from staff.
Not a scent-free space (essential oils used in class), though we ventilate and welcome masking/distancing.
Other access needs? Contact programs@thehort.org.
All Greenhouse Education Center events happen rain or shine.
