Recipes and Rituals for Community Care

October 21 @ 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Autumn Harvest Sound Healing

Join us for a free all-ages sound bath led by Mattia “Tia” Colón, MSW. Bring your family and friends! We’ll open with introductions and time for your questions.

Then you’ll settle in for 30 minutes as Tibetan singing bowls ring out around you. The gentle vibrations are meant to ease stress and help you focus. Afterward, we’ll talk about simple ways to keep meditating at home. If you’d like, bring a journal for notes or reflections.

This event is part of Recipes & Rituals for Community Care. Explore the role of plants in personal and communal well-being with guest herbalists, healing artists, and wellness practitioners.

FACILITATOR

Mattia “Tia” Colón is a Master Level Social Worker, Meditation Facilitator & Garden Educator. It is her connection to the Chieu Kien Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in The Bronx that influences and inspires her work. She hosts soundbowl meditation events and medicinal tea ceremonies with diverse groups of people across NYC. She utilizes various singing bowls and other instruments to create sound frequencies to induce a relaxing and healing atmosphere.

ACCESSIBILITY

The kitchen/classroom is wheelchair accessible; with advance notice we can add a mat path across the greenhouse’s pebbled ground (garden entrance has a small raised threshold; garden paths are grass).
Tables adjust height; backless benches/stools available.
Kitchen is shared—we avoid peanuts but can’t guarantee a nut-free space; water provided in refillable pitchers.
First aid on-site; nearest AED is one building away.
Nearest restrooms are ~1 min walk; a gender-neutral restroom is available by key from staff.
Not a scent-free space (essential oils used in class), though we ventilate and welcome masking/distancing.
All Greenhouse Education Center events happen rain or shine.
